Indiana Inmate Population is a private reference site, not a government office. We cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, schedule visits, calculate release dates, retrieve official booking records, or change a court or jail record. Those requests must go to the agency that holds or maintains the record.

Where to Verify Records

Indiana custody questions depend on the system involved. County sheriffs and county jails control current local jail custody and many booking records. IDOC controls sentenced state-prison custody and IDOC offender-record channels. Courts maintain official case records, even when public case information appears through MyCase. Federal and immigration custody use separate national locators.

  • For a person currently in a county jail, start with the relevant county in the County Directory, then use the local inmate records guidance or the county jail's direct roster, phone, records counter, app, or APRA process.
  • For booking photos, roster display rules, or mugshot availability, review jail rosters and mugshots and then verify with the county sheriff or jail that maintains the booking record.
  • For charges, hearings, warrants, dispositions, and filed court documents, use court records after an arrest, MyCase, and the clerk or court that maintains the case file.
  • For a specific jail, prison, work-release center, juvenile facility, federal facility, or ICE-linked location, use the Facility Directory to identify the correct custody type and routing path.
  • For a sentenced state prisoner, use the IDOC incarcerated search at offenderlocator.idoc.in.gov and IDOC's public-records or authorized offender-record request channels. IDOC asks requesters to be detailed and include the person's name and DOC number when the request concerns an incarcerated individual.
  • For federal custody, use the BOP inmate locator at bop.gov/inmate_locator. Indiana federal facilities include FCI Terre Haute and USP Terre Haute in Vigo County.
  • For immigration custody, use ICE ODLS at locator.ice.gov/odls. A county jail may show an ICE hold before a person is transferred, so check the county jail and ICE when both may apply.
  • For custody notifications, use Indiana SAVIN at indianasavin.in.gov or VINELink at vinelink.com.
  • For public-records requests to Indiana public agencies, Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, IC 5-14-3, is the baseline. Court records also follow the Indiana Rules on Access to Court Records and Rule 5 exclusions.
